International Art Exhibition
curated by Paola Trevisan
Galleria De’ Marchi, Bologna, Italy
April 9 – 21, 201

Dear Penny,
Time ago you sent us an email to contact us and you sent your website for possible collaboration. We saw and appreciated your artworks published on your website and we would like to invite you to participate at this important exhibition organized by Trevisan International Art. We believe that your vibrant, intense, refined art research together with your creative imaginary, will add personal and unique inputs to this upcoming exhibition.
On April ( from the 9th till the 21st ) we will organize the third edition of “Little Treasures”, a singular exhibition where each artist will show four small artworks of the size of cm. 20x20 (7.87x7.87 inches). This show will gather artists who joined some of our exhibitions and new artists who surely will enjoy to confront themselves with such a small but lovely size. This will be a high class exhibition in which each piece will turned out to be a precious jewel to be discovered and admired for its uniqueness, as well as seen in comparison with the other works.
Naturally, we will publish a catalogue of the exhibition of a small size too (cm. 16x16) where all artists will be presented with two pages, including a short statement and an artwork. Of course also costs will be reduced.
This will be the third edition as we had our first edition on May 2008 and the Galleria De’ Marchi in Bologna will be glad to host again this singular and extraordinary exhibition of little treasures. You can see some photos on previous events on both our websites.
Bologna will play a perfect host to the exhibition: a city of great cultural and artistic vitality, among the most imposing and picturesque in Italy, with its magnificent palaces, long colonnaded streets, mediaeval towers and the warm colour of its buildings.
Renewing once more my appreciation for the high level of your paintings I would like to inform you can visit the section on our website dedicated to ‘Little Treasures’ event where you can find all detailed information regarding the exhibition including the introduction and the regulations:

Exhibiting at ‘Little Treasures’, will grant you to be eligible to become artist of our TIA website www.trevisan-international-art.com
The unique attraction of TIA lies in its networking with and amongst exceptionally gifted contemporary visual artists (painters, sculptors, photographers) from many unique yet diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds. We scrutinize our artists very closely before admission to a Trevisan International exhibition and ongoing representation through our organization. This means that our presentation and exhibitions are always of a high standard and that our artists can feel confident that they are being presented correctly.  Artists will benefit and enjoy the enrichment through our organization, our global network and the promotional aspects.
Please feel free to get in touch with us for further details or any questions you'd like to ask us. I will be happy to help.
Kind regards

ALCHEMY

Penny is one of those artists who has grasped a particularly difficult literary and pictorial genre, that of The Royal Art of Alchemy. From her studies, she has managed to interpret, re-visualise and create by utilising both the Art of nature and its wonderful transmutations.
Penny's creations are profoundly deep and exhibit a magical representation of the alchemical process. This is played out on her canvas through the use of a variety of media on which she works. Physical and visual representationalism of the Art of alchemy is a subject that can be described as a personal journey, where nature leads the artist. However, the subject and the artist can indeed be seen as one, and this is expressed most clearly in Penny's opus. Therefore, it is indeed a pleasure to endorse Penny's work.
As a practicing alchemist and teacher, I can confidently say that Penny is not only an inspiration for all of us, but also her work manages to engage the audience in a much more personal exploration of the Kosmos.
Peace profound and best wishes
Bob Plimer

In Decoding Alchemy, Robert Plimer presents an in-depth introduction to both the spiritual and practical aspects of alchemy. Alchemy has remained throughout the centuries a subject little understood. Therefore, much can be gained through the books insightful analysis of the allegorical and symbolical emblems found in the Mutus Liber.
The aim of Decoding Alchemy is to allow the student of the subject the opportunity to penetrate the secrets of Nature in search of the lapis philosophorum (philosopher’s stone). It is said that the production of such a stone, allows for the transmutation of both matter and the alchemist.

Exposition. Les drôles alchimies de Penny. / Exhibition. Penny's mysterious alchemy.

"The vivid colours, the slightly naive characters, all depicted with a certain naive sense of humour[...] Penny Gardiner draws her inspiration from what she encounters in nature : a knot in the trunk of an oak tree, the shapes created by overlapping branches , etc. From this she creates an abstract motif, playing with the shapes and colours. Each time the original photograph is pinned to the edges of her canvas so the viewer can make the journey back and forth between nature and the artist's transformation of it, trying to pierce the mystery of this strange alchemy."

Penny Gardiner, entre figuratif et art abstrait / between figurative and abstract art

"Penny Gardiner, installée à Berrien depuis quelques années, propose aux visiteurs [de l'office du tourisme de Carhaix] de découvrir ses tableaux absraits. A la base de ces toiles, une composition de bois, de pierre ou encore le noeud d'un arbre, que Penny photographie. A partir du cliché, l'artiste, adepte de la méditation et du yoga, transpose sur toile, à sa manière ce moceau de nature."

"Penny Gardiner, who has been living in Berrien for several years, offers visitors to Carhaix's tourist office the chance to discover her abstract paintings. These paintings are largely compositions of pieces of wood, stone or even a knot in a tree trunk, that Penny captures in photographs. From these pictures, the artist who is keen on yoga and meditation, transposes an aspect of nature onto canvas in her own unique way."

Expostion : deux Britanniques à Mont Leroux. / Two Brits at Mont Leroux.

"Penny Gardiner [est tombée] sous le charme de la Bretagne et du Finistère. [...] Les tableaux de Penny s'inspirent de ce qui l'entoure : un morceau d'écorce ou un champignon. Le reste est 'alchimie, une vision intérieure'. C'est à chacun de découvrir derrière les lignes et courbes colorées 'un sens caché qui l'inspirera physiquement et spirituellement'."

"Penny Gardiner fell under the spell of Brittany and Finistère. [...] Penny's paintings are based on the world around her : from a piece of bark to a mushroom. The rest is 'alchemy, a vision from inside'. It's up to each individual to find their own 'hidden meaning which will inspire them physically and spiritually' behind Penny's colourful lines and swirls."
